Conventional bracket system or self ligating brackets? Which one is better than the other? in what perspective? Young Orthodontists are always in search of innovative measure to reduce treatment time, less chair side time and less inventory. Percutaneous injury to the index finger or thumb during archwire changes accounts for 57.9% of all clinical injuries sustained by orthodontists, with a similar incidence reported by orthodontic assistants and hygienists. Self-ligation reduces the risk of such injuries and potential transmission of HBV, HCV, or HIV for both the orthodontist and the staff. Considering the advantages of self-ligating brackets for the clinician, staff, and patient, they will soon be called as the "conventional" appliance systems of the 21st century.
