That first door had broken the ice, I marched on to each subsequent household and after a dozen homes had talked to a few of their residents, no one slammed the door in my face, no one abused me with expletives, most, at least on this day, were polite and listened to my spiel. With growing confidence, I continued with a determined mindset to make a sale, and I did. It was the last door of the day and after three hours sitting at a down-to-earth couple's dining room table secured my first pay-tv contract. I felt a surge of accomplishment that I took back to the office to share with my team members, my three-year career in door-to-door sales had begun and where it would ultimately take me was to be a long and rewarding journey.Now three decades later and with much water under the bridge I've had time to reflect on what it is to be a success in sales and how my knowledge can go a long way to help new and current salespeople reach their best performance and earn a living that they may never thought possible.
