An orthodontic separator function is to provide adequate inter-dental space for banding with minimal trauma to the patients. An ideal separator should give rapid and good separation without causing the patient discomfort or pain, thereby providing enough space to permit proper selection and adaptation of a band to the tooth. Although separators are available in different varieties, the principle is the same in each case : A device forced or wedged between the teeth to force them apart and left in place long enough for initial tooth movement to occur. This book highlights the latest advances on the separators for significant knowledge and increasing practice efficiency of the readers.
