After the death of Hermann Langerbeck, the Patristic Commission of the Academies of Science entrusted Heinrich Dvrrie and the "Forschungsstelle Gregor von Nyssa" set up by him at the University of M]nster, West Germany, with the edition of the second part of the sermons of Gregory of Nyssa. Because of the size of the corpus, it was decided to split into two the single volume (X) of the Opera Gregorii Nysseni in which it was previously planned to publish these texts. Volume X 1, now published, contains Gregory's sermons on saints and martyrs: De vita Gregorii Thaumaturgi (ed. G. Heil); De sancto Theodoro (ed. J.P. They are to be found today in a total of 376 manuscripts, which form (with the exception of a few less accessible manuscripts) the basis for the present critical edition of the texts. The editing of these many copies of the text was greatly facilitated by the editorial method for use with richly attested Patristic texts developed by O. Teiles der Sermones Gregors von Nyssa beauftragt. J.P. Cavarnos); In sanctum Stephanu
