Bovine brucellosis is widespread in India and appears to be on the increase in recent times, perhaps due to increased trade, rapid movement and failure of prevention programes. Despite the advances made in the diagnosis and therapy, brucellosis is still wide spread and its prevalence in many developing countries is increasing. It is one of the worlds major zoonoses that still is of veterinarian, public health and economic concern in many parts of the world. There is an occupational risk to veterinarians, laboratory technicians and farmers who handle infected animals and aborted fetuses or placentas. Varied findings by different diagnostic methods like cultural, serological and molecular methods, necessitates comparison of various methods to study the epidemiology of brucellosis both in animals and human beings for implementation of effective control and preventive measures. The prevalence of brucellosis varies with area studied and very little information is available so far on brucellosis in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States (Erst while Andhra Pradesh). Hence the present work was undertaken to study the sero epidemiology and molecular diagnosis of brucellosis in these two states.
