Yirga Belay Kindeya licenciou-se na Universidade de Jimma, com um diploma de bacharelato (BSc) em produção e proteção de culturas. O seu segundo grau (MSc.) foi obtido na Universidade de Haramaya em melhoramento vegetal e genética. O seu trabalho de tese centrou-se na cultura do óleo de sésamo. Atualmente trabalha no Instituto de Investigação Agrícola de Tigray (TARI), em Humera.
