Edwin Eastman was an American author and adventurer who lived in the 19th century. He is best known for his book Seven and Nine Years Among the Camanches and Apaches, which details his experiences living with and among these Native American tribes. Not much is known about Eastman's early life, but he was born in 1832 in New York State. At the age of 20, he left his home and traveled to Texas, where he became a trader and eventually joined a group of hunters and trappers. It was during this time that he was captured by the Camanches and spent seven years living among them. After escaping from the Camanches, Eastman went on to live among the Apaches for two years, before eventually returning to white society. It was at this point that he wrote his memoir, Seven and Nine Years Among the Camanches and Apaches, which was published in 1874. In addition to his adventures in the American West, Eastman also traveled to Europe and South America, and he wrote several other books based on his travels and experiences. He passed away in 1900 in New York City.
