J. K. Knauss se graduó como la mejor estudiante de su clase con múltiples honores de Wheaton College en Norton, Massachusetts, Estados Unidos. Estudió seriamente las obras de Alfonso X el Sabio por primera vez para su maestría en estudios medievales en la Universidad de Leeds, Inglaterra. Obtuvo su doctorado en la literatura española medieval de la Universidad de Brown con una tesis que ha sido publicada como La ley y el orden en la España medieval: La obra legislativa alfonsí y las Cantigas de Santa María. A lo largo de su carrera académica, ha estudiado e investigado en Córdoba, Sevilla y Salamanca, España. Ha trabajado como bibliotecaria y profesora de español e inglés, así como editora para imprentas pequeñas. Ayudó a fundar Loose Leaves Publishing y Açedrex Publishing, y ahora trabaja como correctora bilingüe en Zamora, España.Es autora de otro homenaje al legado literario de Alfonso X, la épica medieval aclamada por la crítica Seven Noble Knights (Encircle Publications, 2020). Contribuyó un relato a la antología We All Fall Down: Stories of Plague and Resilience (2020), y publicó una obra de teatro de un solo acto basada en una leyenda de Zamora, Trout Riot (2020).Escribiendo como Jessica Knauss, también es autora de la novela corta "peculiar e intrigante" Un hogar en los árboles (2013), el poemario "exuberante, nunca empalagoso" Dusk Before Dawn (2010), la novela paranormal Awash in Talent (Kindle Press, 2016) y la novela corta fantástica The Atwells Avenue Anomaly (2021).
