India has opened the doors for environmental pollution. In the process of industrialization, to produce more per unit of natural resources, their maintenance and restoration pose new challenges. The present need is accurate data reporting following standardized procedures.Present publication gives an account of pollution levels of micronutrients and heavy metals from domestic sewage and industrial effluent discharged into the Musi river. Pollutant levels at 11 locations have been analyzed and interpreted on a spatial scale using GIS software. Standard procedures were utilized for wastewater, soil, plant sample collection and nutrient analysis. Dissemination of such data on the WWW would bring about awareness in public at large. Small study projects could be taken up by UG students. Pollution control boards could take up corrective measures. Governments shall strive to set up ETPs to contain the pollutant levels in various ecosystems. Awareness may bring about a change in the mindset of polluters to take up preventive measures. Farmers can utilize with caution only treated waste water downstream for cultivation of high value crops.
