This publication is a holistic view of the history of Russian pedagogy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The content of the textbook provides a holistic view of the profound connection of pedagogical phenomena and processes in the history of world civilization and the importance of the world pedagogical experience. "Jadidism became an alternative form of intellectual renewal for the Muslim community. The beginning of the movement is associated with the introduction in mektebs and madrasas of a sound method of teaching literacy, the so-called 'usul-i jadid', that is, a new method to replace the alphabetic one. Jadidists criticised religious fanaticism, demanded the replacement of the obsolete religious schools by national secular schools, promoted the development of science and culture, supported the publication of newspapers in the native language, and the opening of cultural and educational institutions, which helped to consolidate the democratic forces of society. The textbook is addressed to students, teachers and postgraduates of higher educational institutions, students of pedagogical colleges, as well as to all those interested in the history of pedagogical thought and development of teaching and education practices.
