Sharks Our Ocean Guardians is an illustrated children's book that traces the connection between prehistoric and present-day sharks, gives details of the features common to over five hundred shark species, introduces some of the more bizarre species and describes how sharks fit into the ocean food chain. After introducing Jed, a young hammerhead shark whose adventures will be the subject of subsequent books in the series, the book finishes with a number of fascinating shark facts. Since its original publication in 2014, this book has been enjoyed by large numbers of children in presentations by Shark Guardian directors Brendon Sing and Liz Ward-sing, and by the author and illustrator Gail Clarke. Shark Guardian is a UK charity which aims to advance the conservation of sharks and many other marine species worldwide for their sustainable management while protecting their natural environment. This is achieved through education, developing skills, conservation activities and promoting research projects. Brendon Sing and Liz Ward-Sing are both scuba diving instructors based in Phuket, Thailand with many years' experience of diving with sharks. Since founding the Shark Guardian charity in 2013, their focus has been on educating the next generation of Shark Guardians by inspiring them to help protect shark species worldwide. Their hope is that this book and subsequent books in the series will encourage children to learn more about sharks, to visit oceans in many parts of the world and to discover the extraordinary strength and natural beauty of these amazing creatures. Brendon and Liz are very grateful to children's author and illustrator Gail Clarke for the many hours she has spent putting this book together. They are delighted with how she has taken their inspirations and created such a fantastic, factual story with beautiful illustrations. Fifty percent of the profit from sales of this print-on-demand version of 'Sharks Our Ocean Guardians; The Shark Guardian Series Book One' will be donated to the Shark Guardian Charity. By purchasing this book, and others in the series, you will be helping in the conservation of sharks and other marine species. Autorenporträt
Once upon a time, I was a primary school teacher! After 28 years in a wonderful school in Hong Kong, I retired in 2004 and 'migrated' with my husband to Italy. This set me thinking about migration and animals that cover huge distances every year. With the help of my good friend Google, I discovered lots of interesting facts about migration: which animals go where, how they find their way and which routes they take. Suddenly, BING! an idea popped into my head! What if an animal wanted to send a message to a relative thousands of miles away? Perhaps he could ask for help from the migrating animals. That was how it all began. My first book was Patrick's Birthday Message and since publishing it, I have learned many more amazing facts about animals that have inspired me to write eight more books! As well as writing, illustrating and publishing my books I love visiting schools, talking to children, and sharing my stories with them. I now spend my time in Italy, Phuket and England, but most years I also travel to Hong Kong and Kenya to see my family of four children and six grandchildren. Everywhere I go my favourite hobby is visiting schools whether they are huge international campuses with thousands of children in Hong Kong, Phuket and Bangkok, or tiny village schools in Kenya and England. Patrick the Parrot loves to travel too and these days his friends Cosmos the Whale, Chameleon, Jed the Hammerhead Shark and of course Great-Grandpa Gilbert all come along with him.
