For many years it contained Minster, New Bremen, etc. which became part of Auglaize County when it was created from Shelby County and Allen County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 411 square miles (1,065 km²).409 square miles (1,060 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (5 km²) of it (0.43%) is water.
