It is 1952. Alice Waterhouse is seven years old and has feelings about things. She begins having strange visions, claiming to be talking to her uncle Charles, who suddenly disappeared without trace in 1940. She relates details about Charles which she could not possibly know, to Mary and Alan, her distraught parents. Alice's psychic experiences seem to centre around the old village bowling green which was bombed in 1940. As her daughter's visions become more frequent, Mary learns there are many secrets in Alan's family which have been kept from her. Young Alice appears to have inherited her abilities from her granny, also named Alice Waterhouse. In 1940, Charles Waterhouse meets an exotic, mysterious American woman at a village dance. Their love affair blossoms quickly, but some in the village suspect she may be a German spy. Over four decades of unresolved tragedy in one family may be finally explained if little Alice can persuade Mary and Alan that there is something unearthly under the bowling green. Or do some secrets remain buried in a century now gone?
