Soon, she claims the position of shortstop, and the boys compete against her quickness when the batter hits the ball. Who knows what Sadie will do if she snatches up the ball before another player? If Sadie gets the ball, the game has just begun!

Autorenporträt
Jill Fessler is a retired executive secretary. She is a guest columnist for a local county newspaper, providing gardening articles. She lives in Silver Grove, a small town in northern Kentucky. She has watched many of the neighborhood boys play baseball in her yard. Those memories have created this story. Having six apple trees around the yard always seemed to attract children. Eventually, the yard became a gathering place for many, and baseball was the game of choice. Sadie was her family dog for several years. Sadie became so familiar with the game of baseball that she seems to take the shortstop position on the field as if she were playing the game too. We know now Sadie played games all of her own.
