This blockage is what causes the painful and damaging complications of sickle cell disease. Infants and young children are at risk for life threatening infections like Anemia ,Pain crisis, or sickle crisis, Acute chest syndrome, Spleenic sequestration, Stroke, Jaundice Increased infections, Leg ulcer, Bone damage, Early gallstone, Kidney damage and loss of body water in the urine, Eye damage.
