Mario Mendoza se licenció en Letras en Bogotá y se graduó en Literatura hispanoamericana en la Fundación José Ortega y Gasset Toledo. Ha impartido clases de Literatura durante más de diez años y ha publicado las novelas La ciudad de los umbrales (The City of Thresholds) (1994), Scorpio City (1998), El viaje Loco Tafur (Seix Barral, 2003), editada previamente en Seix Barral para Latinoamérica bajo el título Relato asesino (2001), Satanás (Seix Barral, 2002), galardonada con el Premio Biblioteca Breve, y Cobro de sangre (2004), y los libros de relatos La travesía del vidente, Premio Nacional de Literatura del Instituto Distrital de Cultura Turismo de Bogotá en 1995, y Escalera cielo (2004).
