Any adequate account of setting the Banyamurenge as the second class citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo must acknowledge that the left and the right of political spectrum based on extremism, manipulation, and radicalization shaped by domestic forces contribute to promoting rhetorical beliefs and ideas which foment and incite violence and foster hatred. The massacre committed against the Banyamurenge at Gatumba is a result of multiple factors that accumulated over time, and in the end, continuing acts of violence against them have been demonstrated to be ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity and genocide. It is a shame for the whole international community to allow such crimes to go unpunished. It is crucial to observe that many of the mechanisms through which these acts of violence against the Banyamurenge were prepared and implemented bore striking resemblances to those used during the twentieth century, including the genocide committed against the Tutsi in Rwanda and the Nazi Holocaust against the Jews.
