Silver Threads shows consciousness studies in the context of scholarly investigation and liberal thinking. It was written to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Parapsychology Research Group. However, the subject matter is not confined to parapsychology; the volume is, more generally, a collection of essays on and experiments in consciousness. It includes theoretical material on the philosophy of science and experimental reports. Many of the contributors are recognized as outstanding original researchers in the field of parapsychology, such as Targ, Honorton, Tart, Harman, Krippner, and Grof. The contributors conclude that: (1) psychic phenomena are genuine and can be subject to scientific investigation; (2) science is changing to adapt to new categories of phenomena, including those which are considered paranormal; and (3) paranormal function is an innate human ability that everyone possesses and uses.Hinweis: Dieser Artikel kann nur an eine deutsche Lieferadresse ausgeliefert werden.
BEVERLEY KANE, M.D. specializes in preventive medicine and medical informatics at Apple Computer, Inc., Cupertino, California. After completing a residency in family practice and a fellowship in sports and preventive medicine, she joined the staff at Stanford University Center for Research in Disease Prevention where she was involved in research in coronary artery disease. Having studied computer science and majored in art as an undergraduate, Dr. Kane combines art, medicine, computer technology, and consciousness studies by creating interfaces for access to traditional and alternative health resources. JEAN MILLAY, Ph.D. is the art director for the development of interactive educational software at DynEd International, Foster City, California. She is the author of various publications on the subject of brainwave synchronization, telepathy, and the visionary experience. In 1971 Dr. Millay co-invented with Tim Scully the Stereo Brainwave Biofeedback Light Sculpture, a device that compares brainwaves between two people, or between one's own cerebral hemispheres, and feeds that information back as aesthetic patterns of light and sound. Dr. Millay is President of the Parapsychology Research Group. DEAN BROWN, Ph.D. is founder and president of Picodyne Corporation, Menlo Park, California, an educational software company. Previous to that, he was a founder of Zilog Inc., and pioneered the use of computers in education at Stanford Research Institute (SRI International). Both a physicist and a metaphysicist, and a Vedic scholar, Dr. Brown recently completed a translation of the Vedas from Sanskrit.
