Jerry Hall grew up in a suburban area of Birmingham, Alabama. His family was from rural Alabama and had a great influence in his early years. He played school sports and participated in community team sports. He pitched in several slow pitch softball leagues with many strikeouts and only three home runs allowed in ten years experience. In a sport designed for hitting and defense, he struck out many batters by pitching curves, sliders, changeups, and movements. He always led his softball teams in batting average and always led his basketball teams in rebounds. He graduated from college with honors with a double major in accounting and finance. He worked in accounting after college and self-taught himself in computer technology, working as a programmer for twelve years before starting a company and running it for fifteen years. He worked as an industrial technician, a laborer, a post-secondary teacher, and a security officer. He had a large collection of poems and short stories destroyed tragically, which discouraged his writing for many years. Simply Jim is the first in a series about the Simply family.
