Hypnotic mind control was developed by the occultists of western Europe during the Renaissance. The hypnotic control system combined polyphonic voice commands with occult hieroglyphs and, when combined with powerful talismans of Persian mystics, was irresistible. Mind control was declared heresy by Pope Leo XIII and erased from history. In 1942, the dark magick spell-casters of the Axis powers re-discovered the mesmerism system of the erased occultists. The Axis created a mind-controlling living weapon which they hoped would turn the tide of the losing war. When ten-year-old Thadeus uncovers this weapon in a bomb shelter beneath the city of London, its wielder August Ording curses him. Unknown to Thadeus, this curse haunts him as he grows up, making him sure he just has the worst luck in the world. But when he crosses paths with Meera, a Kannakannack native, he's sure his luck is about to change. It is-but not in the way he thinks. Kannakannack tobacco is considered the finest in the world, with its "special" properties. When Thadeus swindles Meera out of her bag of Kannakannack tobacco, she vows revenge. Her journey for revenge brings her to Spain, where she crosses paths with mobsters, clergymen, and a divorce lawyer with a passion for seeking female justice. As all the threads come together in this delightful and quirky tale, the lines blur between good and evil, and both the fate of Thadeus and Meera hang in the balance.
