Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in children characterized by repetitive episodes of nocturnal breathing cessation due to upper airway collapse. OSA in children is now recognized as a common disorder and can be associated with significant morbidity and the children affected with this condition are more likely to have behavioral problems. The underlying pathophysiology is multifactorial and may vary considerably between individuals. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary for an accurate management of the disease. Hence the purpose of this book is to outline the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis of OSA, existing treatment modalities and the state- of-the-art and future directions in the peri operative management of children with OSA.
