The major problem in electrical distribution systems is the load balancing between phases, especially in commercial buildings. The major problem in electrical distribution systems is the load balancing between phases, especially in commercial buildings. The consequences of phase unbalance are numerous: distribution transformer and cable heating, neutral conductor damage ...etc. This is why it is very advantageous to properly design the load distribution system apriori. In case the loads connected to the three phases are unbalanced, load re-connection to other phases is performed manually, which is a tedious and expensive task to perform that requires qualified personnel to perform the task. In order to overcome this problem a special system is devised in this research in order to optimize the individual load distribution across the three phases. A special hardware, equipped with the state of the art industrial networking technologies, is used in conjunction with energy metering in order to convey to the main controller a detailed view of the electrical current distribution across the system. This will enable the optimization and the load balancing algorithms to compute the most suitable combination for the customers. This may be performed whenever the load unbalance exceeds a certain preset value.
