Maternity-wear is a functional garment designed to address the anatomical growth during pregnancy. Market for maternity wear is well established in developed world and is growing rapidly in developing countries like India. One of the key limitations which affects the attractiveness of this segment and thereby its market growth is low return on investment for consumers on these garments due to their shorter serviceable life, as they are designed for use only during the pregnancy. This book explores the possibility of making the fit and style innovations in maternity-wear such that they remain serviceable during pre , post and during pregnancy periods. These innovations are achieved through- styling, construction, pattern engineering and fabric selection. The author's research in India led to developing such garments the "Smart Maternity-wear". The garment designs were developed for all three categories-casual wear, formal wear and evening wear for Indian, Indo-western and Western styles. The book documents the research and garment specifications and designs. The designs and concept can be extended to plus size clothing and clothing for women with fluctuating weight problem.
