In Africa, agriculture is a major contributor to the economy and provides livelihoods for the majority of the population. Agriculture is a pillar and the economy's backbone in most of the African developing countries. Despite the growing populations in developing countries, the agricultural sector continues to perform poorly and the majority of people engaged in agriculture remain in poverty. To achieve a sustainable agricultural sector, new strategies must be developed to holistically address the challenges preventing growth, and make Agribusiness competitive. The following Strategies have been proposed:- Remove barriers and create incentives for the private sector - Invest public resources more strategically- Make agribusiness systems more competitive and easily adaptable- Encourage institutional frameworks, which enable all actors to utilize market opportunities. The proposed strategies could, facilitate wealth creation, jobs, improve the country's food security and transform growth of rural development for the SME's in Africa.
