Despite the demands and dangers associated with entering the international market in times of Covid-19, large companies in the Petrochemical-Plastic sector of Cartagena have positioned themselves internationally thanks to their supply of basic necessities during the pandemic. However, the above situation urged to identify and analyze the current state of internationalization of small and medium enterprises of the Petrochemical-Plastic sector that are important economic units for the development of the local economy of Cartagena. The methodology used was a descriptive study, which adopts a non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a mixed approach that studied a sample of 13 SMEs, through surveys. The main results obtained show that most of the companies studied have not been involved in international expansion at present; in addition, it is evident that they have not received full support from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and entities of the Colombian state.
