Smoking is a major public health problem in Niger. It is one of the leading causes of preventable death in the world. Indeed, apart from addiction, it is responsible for many diseases including more than a dozen different cancers and cardiovascular diseases, whether active or passive. This phenomenon is on the rise all over the world, especially in African countries. Niger is no exception. Thus, studying smoking among student guards will not only help to determine its prevalence, but also to identify the factors that influence smoking among them and to propose measures to combat this scourge in this environment in particular and among young Nigeriens in general.Objective: The objective of our work is to study smoking among student guards at the National Guard training centre in Niamey from 28 October to 29 November 2019.Type of study, methodology and tools: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical study carried out from 28 October to 29 November 2019 which involved one hundred (100) student guards of the 2017 contingent.
