Autorenporträt
Der Isländer Snorri Sturluson, 1178 in Hvamm geboren, war Gelehrter und Dichter. Er widmete sich vor allem historischen Studien und verfasste ein künstlerisch gestaltetes Geschichtswerk über die norwegischen Könige sowie die "Prosa-Edda" (um 1220), mit dem er die der altgermanischen Tradition verhafteten Göttergeschichten vor dem Vergessenwerden bewahren wollte.
