The study of Confucianism in the 16th-18th centuries provides us with an insight into the status and role of Confucianism at a time when Confucian thought was declining in Vietnamese society, its positive influence on the state and people of Viet Nam and its inherent limitations in the difficult period of national history. This is what is supremely necessary for Vietnam's development today. The key question is how Vietnam's ruling elite has used this teaching at relevant stages.
