While this book revealed the involvement of NGO s and Government in poverty alleviation programmes, like women empowerment, women development, awareness and participation especially women in drought prone areas. Our study is an effort in this direction to fill this void.The present study has made an attempt to see the role of Non Government Organisations in bringing social change and empowerment among women in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Dr. K.PRABHAKAR MSC., Ph.D., is presently working as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati ¿ 517 502, Andhra Pradesh. India. He got Young Scientist Fellowship for the year 2006. He has been actively engaged in field work, research and acts as coordinator to many programmes.
