Document from the year 2023 in the subject Social Work, grade: unbenotet, University of Kassel (Humanwissenschaften), course: Einführung in wissenschaftliches Denken, Arbeiten und Argumentieren, language: English, abstract: This article discusses the restriction of personal development, authenticity, and individuality by societal norms and certain characteristics of our psyche, and presents solutions to this issue. Using the structural-functional systems theory and the concept of habitus, the first chapter explains how society shapes our personality without us being aware of it. The second chapter then introduces self-objectification as a suitable method for achieving awareness about our true self. For this, the sections 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 describe, from an evolutionary-biological developmental-psychological perspective, how our human nature can subconsciously influence our personality. Section 2.1.2 is a digression into my theory of the ego, which as a psychological factor requires special attention due to its reality-distorting and morale-damaging influence. The third chapter presents the language of our subconscious and explains how we can perceive and utilize it. On one hand, to get to know our own subconscious and thereby fundamentally expand our consciousness about ourselves. On the other hand, to enables access to our subconscious perception and the astonishing abilities of our intuition. This work is ment to make us think: about societal influence and manipulation, subjectivity and judgment, authenticity and conformity, and the possibilities of self-realization through awareness. In general, I hope that my writings can contribute to understanding how our mind works so that we can use this knowledge to better deal with ourselves and others. This work attempts to establish fundamental theories about the structure and functioning of the human existence and provide scientific foundations for those. Because of this, it maintains a rational tone and may require some patience while reading. If it¿s supposed to meet the requirements of a scientific work, page 12 and the sections 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 3.2.1 shouldn¿t be considered, as they primarily represent my own freely written theories, which claims and connections are only partially supported. Please note that this work is my translation of my originally German article ¿Selbst-bewusst-sein¿. Thus, my writing may appear a little flawed sometimes. This work does not use gendered language.
