The book promotes an approach on the institutional supply of social housing for the poor in Brazil, from the perspective of practices that allow the integration of the various urban agents in Brazilian cities - Society, Public Power and Urban Agents. It reviews the history of actions promoted by governmental administration, from the end of the 19th century to the present day, in order to verify the absence of perennial policies of socio-spatial insertion of popular settlements. Thus, it presents some guidelines that seek to requalify the urban spaces and the dwellings of the social classes with lower income, especially through the prerogative of the Federal Law 11.888/08, the Technical Assistance Law. This law establishes to the Architecture and Engineering professionals the practice of technical support aimed at guiding the social strata so that they have assured, via public power, the assignment of architectural designs and technical guidance to build or renovate their dwellings, ensuring the building quality of dwellings settled in informal areas and irregular occupations of Brazilian cities.
