In the area of health of a group of people, view people with disease as a product of biological, social and cultural environment. Some of these changes maybe due to movement of people from one place to another as a result of migration. As these vary from place to place, it is possible to generalize about the severity of a disease that one would expect in any given area, with a given set of socio-economic characteristics. These, generally are useful to understand the processes at work at the city, state or at neighbourhoods that are undergoing change. Migration can be described as movement of people from one place to another. It may involve great distances, such as moving to another state or within a state. This research uses the definition of migrant as defined by the Census of India. It will consider lifetime migrants to the Greater Mumbai Metropolitan Region/Area (GMMA) as given by the Census of India, 2001. The total population of GMMA was 16.4 million in 2001. It grew by 15.1 percent due to in-migration 1991-2001. 43 percent of GMMA¿s population were classified as migrants. Migrants are susceptible to diseases at their new destination.
