The problem of child labour has become an issue of great concern in recent times all over the world. The alarming growth of child labour, particularly in developing countries, has attracted the attention of governments, national and international social organizations and social scientists. The exploding population, industrialization and increasing urbanization have aggravated the problem of child labour. In the preindustrial era also, children were engaged to work in agricultural and trade occupations, cottage industries and in artisan and craftsmen operations.
