Why a sociology of women and gender in Burkina Faso? In Burkina Faso, a country of men of integrity, women's lives are particularly marked by discriminatory gender relations that are prejudicial to their full development. Their social destiny is negotiated under a tension between tradition and modernity, between empowerment and impoverishment. The birth of a girl as a first child is not always welcomed with joy. In the school environment, sexual violence and harassment threaten the future of many adolescent girls. By bringing together various articles from empirical research, this book aims to make an original contribution to the visibility and understanding of the status of women in Burkina Faso and the related issues of sustainable and equitable development. In a Burkina Faso in the midst of a metamorphosis, under the aegis of the market economy, globalization, and the disintegration of family and social ties, policies aim to change the world of girls and women in Burkina.
