This book compares impacts of land use conversion on soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks in communal rangeland, exclosure and cultivated land in Borana rangeland, southern Ethiopia as implications for devising an appropriate and sustainable land use/management. The overall implication is that communal/open grazing land and continuous cultivation in the rangeland resulted in an increase in bulk density and a decrease in soil organic carbon and total nitrogen (stock and content) and it was also a cause for soil pH and soil moisture losses. Therefore, the rangeland exposed to…mehr

Produktbeschreibung
This book compares impacts of land use conversion on soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks in communal rangeland, exclosure and cultivated land in Borana rangeland, southern Ethiopia as implications for devising an appropriate and sustainable land use/management. The overall implication is that communal/open grazing land and continuous cultivation in the rangeland resulted in an increase in bulk density and a decrease in soil organic carbon and total nitrogen (stock and content) and it was also a cause for soil pH and soil moisture losses. Therefore, the rangeland exposed to overgrazing and continuous cultivation has to be protected from overgrazing to protect soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks for its long term benefit and climate change mitigation.
