Environmental pollution and the destruction of natural resources is currently a global concern. In recent decades, environmental pollution has attracted attention because one of the ecosystems that is being seriously damaged by anthropogenic activity is the soil. The quantity and diversity of pollutants that are increasing in the soil due to agrochemical development, mining, unregulated territorial growth and industrialization. This diversity and the transformation of soils by the biological activity of organic compounds into various metabolites make soil studies to identify contaminants complex and costly. The effects of soil contamination also depend on soil properties, which control the mobility, bioavailability and residence time of contaminants. That is why this paper presents all the essentials regarding soil, soil chemistry and properties, contamination, bioremediation and contaminated soil studies in different parts of our country.
