This manual was written to: Allow naturalist students who are destined either for teaching or for research. Vulgarize certain methods of soil study for people who have never had the opportunity to do research, to acquire certain knowledge that will be indispensable to them in the accomplishment of their function. Most of the methods presented in this handout are already used in many laboratories. Some of them have many variants that can be adapted to different research objectives or to different types of equipment. There is no doubt that this first attempt at a collection of methods will have to be improved and completed later on, since Pedology is a science in full evolution, calling for more and more sophisticated techniques. The plan of this handbook has been determined by the different successive stages of the study of a soil. This manual is written in three chapters.
