The catalogue is published on the occasion of the exhibition Operae by Sol LeWitt and Mimmo Paladino, organized by Associazione Futuro and hosted in Bari from June 7th to August 24th 2003. The catalogue features the works created by the artists specifically for the exhibition in the city environment and their course of execution. Sol LeWitt realized a huge wall drawing that shows an absolute new structure: combining horizontal and circular lines, the work is a synthesis of the West architecture angular structures and the Oriental circular symbology. The drawing is a tribute to the extraordinary architecture of Bari, beeing an outpost of the dialogue among Mediterranean cultures. Mimmo Paladino will be showing two installations belonging to his old projects and some new sculptures. The artist has chosen to work on the specific location, consisting in the medieval blockhouse Fortino Sant'Antonio. On the outside a big metal helmet is collocated to garrison the venue together with a series of polychromatic alluminium flags remembering the sea vocation of the city. On the inside the artist collocated the Dormienti, a series of ambiguous presences of 33 keeping still bodies lieing on the floor, accompanied with the original music created by Brian Eno specifically for the occasion. The catalogue also includes some essays that explain the artists'works.
