The aim of the present textbook was to review the importance of solid mechanics from the point of view of general definitions of fracture, fracture mechanics and the energy balance approach, the stress intensity approach, the concept of fatigue and propagation of cracks, and finally the important findings of this study. Chapter one constitutes general introduction to mechanics of solids and fracture mechanics. This chapter includes response models of solids, definition of fracture, failure of structures, creep rupture, and historical review. In chapter two fracture mechanics and the energy…mehr

In chapter two fracture mechanics and the energy balance Approach were introduced and discussed thoroughly from the consideration of a brief introduction and compliance calibration. Chapters three discusses the stress intensity approach from the viewpoint of introduction, the effect of specimen geometry, the grain size and temperature. Chapter four discusses fatigue which includes a brief introduction to fatigue, S-N curves, effect of mean load, Miner¿s law for cumulative damage, and crack growth rates. The conclusions which is the last chapter summarizes the important points and findings which were reached in this textbook.
