This grounded theory research project examines how Somali refugee men adjust to community college. As they adapt, they seek support from other people and develop their motivations in order to overcome the new external pressures that accompany going to college. The grounded theory is explained and then compared to the other major theories of motivation. Several quotes from the Somalis themselves are included as part of the research findings. Finally, suggestions for further research and implications for community college program development are discussed.
