This scholarly edition of Lockhart's best-known novel is the first modern publication based on the revised second edition, Lockhart's final text. Thomas C. Richardson is Professor of English and holds the Eudora Welty Chair at Mississippi University for Women (MUW). He has also served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Provost / Vice President for Academic Affairs at MUW. He previously held faculty appointments at North Carolina State University and Campbell University, as well as at the University of Glasgow as the Glasgow Herald Visiting Fellow in the Department of Scottish Literature.
