Mabel grew up in a coal mining town in the Welsh valleys at the start of the Second World War.One of nine children, times were very tough and life was hard and growing up in an age of 'make-do' Mabel learnt to use her imagination writing short plays to be acted out in an old garden shed, where the local community would gather for some respite from the horrors of the outside world.
