Sonaten und Partiten für Violine solo BWV 1001-1006: Ausgabe von Carl Flesch Es wird vermutet, Johann Sebastian Bach hätte die sechs Sonaten und Partiten für Violine solo nach dem frühen Tod seiner Frau komponiert, um ihr ein Andenken zu schaffen beziehungsweise seine Trauer zu verarbeiten. Die jeweils viersätzigen Sonaten haben jeweils eine Partita zugeordnet und sind weder von Orchester noch Basso continuo begleitet. Sie wurden jedoch mehrfach adaptiert und für andere Instrumente oder Ensembles bearbeitet, auch von Kollegen und Bewunderern. Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelte man sogar einen speziellen Rundbogen, der das Spiel der Akkorde erleichtern sollte.So bedeutend die sechs Sonaten und Partiten auch sein mögen, sie sind vor allem eins: eine Herausforderung. Dank ihrer komplexen Struktur in einer polyphon anmutenden Schreibweise ist das saubere Spiel der zwölf Stücke sehr anspruchsvoll, allerdings hat sie auch den Effekt, dass die Violine sich selbst begleitet. Das ist die Besonderheit an Bachs Sonaten und Partiten, die sie trotzdem spannend macht und dabei den Ehrgeiz des Violinisten anstachelt.
