The author is a continuously celebrating child-man who grew up (but not completely) in Hannibal, Missouri in the '50s and '60s. Influenced and inspired by both the power and the majestic beauty of the Mississippi River, he draws on its surrounding landscapes, history, and inhabitants (human and otherwise) for his writings. This setting is interwoven with an enduring and intensely sensual love of a woman whom he calls his Muse.

Autorenporträt
Joseph Welch fell victim to an intense love affair which has produced five children and seventeen grandchildren and shows no signs of abating. Welch is a homegrown child of Hannibal, Missouri and a product of the Mississippi River. As a young man, he relived Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi when he floated a raft from Hannibal to New Orleans, where he was welcomed warmly, made an honorary Colonel in the Governor's Militia, and awarded the key to the City of New Orleans. Now living enthusiastically with his Muse in Hannibal, the Mississippi River and the bluffs surrounding it remain his eloquent dream icons.
