Autorenporträt
Holz, Arno, geb. am 26.4.1863 in Rastenburg (Ostpreußen); gest. am 26.10.1929 in Berlin. Holz kam 1875 mit seinen Eltern (der Vater war Apotheker) nach Berlin. Schon früh entschied er sich, sein Leben ganz der literarischen Arbeit zu widmen; er fühlte sich zum Reformator der deutschen Literatur berufen, ein Anspruch, den er mit Isolation und wirtschaftlicher Not bezahlen musste. In Berlin trat er in Verbindung mit den Brüdern Hart und ihrem literarischen Verein 'Durch'. 1887-92 lebte und arbeitete er in Gemeinschaft mit Johannes Schlaf; die beiden wurden zu Pionieren des deutschen Naturalismus.
