LUÍS DE CAMÕES (1524?-1580) is considered to be one of Portugal's greatest poets. Drawing formal inspiration from Virgil, Ovid, Petrarch, and other poets, both classical and modern, Camões's epic poem The Lusiads brought him immediate and enduring fame. RICHARD ZENITH, a longtime resident of Portugal, was the recipient of the Pessoa Prize, the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, and the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. He has published his own poetry in magazines, as well as a book of short stories titled Terceiras Pessoas, and Pessoa: A Biography.
