Slush fund, charlatanism and witch doctoring. What church would adopt such methods? A judgment given by the courts of the State of Rio de Janeiro in 1995 proves that there is evidence of such practices in the Universal Church and condemns this religious institution to return the property to the lawyer and college professor Grigore Avram Valeriu. In this book, Grigore Valeriu gives an account of his entire life, from birth in Romania as a descendant of a traditional Jewish family that came to Brazil when he was 17 years old, until his graduation from Law School and building a solid patrimony, lost to the Universal Church. In 1988, undermined by marital and family problems, he looked for help from the church. The aid he received, however, was, besides the loss of his patrimony, the near destruction of his marriage and family. For the church, the lawyer lost homes, apartments, shops, and assets from the stock market. With dilapidated assets and without an alternative, Grigore accepted the invitation of the Universal Church to work as a lawyer. Three months later, this Romanian national took charge of their legal department in Rio de Janeiro. Soon he headed up the national legal department of the Universal Church, in São Paulo, during the period following the purchase of Record Television. He watched closely as illegal practices transpired, suggestions for buying a judge and sermons that did not fit with the conduct of Bishops and pastors. In disagreeing with the actions taken by the church, Grigore was fired. He decided to take legal action to recover his lost property. This publication originally released in Brazil and propagation in English to help millions of faithful, deceived by sermons based upon financial sacrifice to achieve blessings from God, to get rid of these lies and follow, only and exclusively to God, thus being an autobiography that could shake the structures of the religious establishment.
