This book addresses the current problem of global warming and climate change in particular and their effects on rural agriculture and livelihoods of poor farmers in South Sudan. It specifically dwells on mitigation efforts, building resilience and on the direct effects of climate change on crop productivity and food security. This book offers to strengthen the near forgotten approach of farmer-led participatory plant breeding by selection from locally available plant germplasm pool of land races that usually have excellent horizontal resistance to both pests and diseases. Although, farmers have maintained and produced most of their food needs from local crop land races, they have not been able to classically select hardy plant materials that is suited to the different environment differentials and that vary with climatic conditions. This book also, formally attempts to bring to the reader in a simplified outline packages and techniques that have been scientifically tested and researched. This therefore, offers a window of opportunity for crop improvement, policy and decision makers, agriculturists, agricultural extension officers and young researchers alike.
