The study on this publication is connected with the Intensity variation of Southern Hemispheric Equatorial Trough and its impact on the intensity on the Cyclonic storms over Indian Ocean based on satellite cloud data which has a significant impact on operational cyclone forecasting. The study leads to the analysis of the variation in the activity of the SHET and its influence on the intensity of the cyclonic storms of various categories over north Indian Ocean such as cases of cyclonic storms, which has dissipated over the sea, cyclonic storms weakens in intensity just before landfall and cyclonic storms keep on intensifying till it crosses the coast. The variations in intensity of the SHET, inferred from the satellite cloud imageries, can be used as an important forecasting tool for cyclone predictions. The study reveals that the intensity of the SHET is inversely proportional to the intensity of the cyclonic storms in the North Indian Ocean. Similarly, the SHET intensity and its variations can be used as a tool for foreshowing the northeast monsoon rainfall activity.
