Autorenporträt
One of Canada's most well-known suffragists, Nellie Letitia McClung was a Canadian author, politician, and social activist who lived from 20 October 1873 to 1 September 1951. With the 1908 book Sowing Seeds in Danny, she launched her writing career. She would go on to produce sixteen books, including two autobiographies. She was a key figure in the Canadian women's suffrage movement, and she was instrumental in getting women the vote in 1916 in Alberta and Manitoba. McClung was chosen to serve in Alberta's Legislative Assembly in 1921, where she did so until 1926. She was one of the Famous Five, a group of five women who brought the Persons Case-regarding women's eligibility to serve in the Canadian Senate-first to the Supreme Court of Canada and subsequently to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. In 1936, McClung became the first female board member of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1938, she represented Switzerland as a delegate to the League of Nations in Geneva.
